Things I Like About Myself

i find it much easier to notice the things i wish i could change about myself than the things i genuinely like. somewhere along the way, being kind to myself started to feel embarrassing or self-indulgent—even though i would never think that about someone else. so this post is a small attempt to turn my attention toward the qualities, quirks, and little pieces of myself that i’m glad are mine. not because i think i’m perfect, but because i deserve to be someone i can appreciate too ♡

my resilience

i like that i am resilient, even when i don’t feel particularly strong. i have made it through difficult days, unexpected changes, and seasons when simply continuing felt like an achievement. my resilience isn’t always dramatic or inspiring; sometimes it looks like resting, asking for help, changing my plans, or trying again after i thought i had nothing left to give.

being resilient doesn’t mean that nothing hurts me or that i always recover quickly. it means i keep finding small ways to return to myself. even when life leaves me tired, discouraged, or uncertain, there is a quiet part of me that still believes things can become gentler—and i’m proud that i continue listening to it ♡

my ability to appreciate the small things

i like that it doesn’t always take something enormous to make me happy. i can find genuine delight in discovering a new food or outfit in a cozy game, stumbling across an interesting corner of the internet, eating something comforting, or having a quiet moment that feels entirely my own. these things might seem insignificant from the outside, but they add softness and texture to my days.

appreciating small things doesn’t make difficult seasons disappear, but it gives me little places to rest inside them. it reminds me that a life doesn’t need to be exciting, impressive, or constantly changing to contain moments worth noticing. i like that some part of me is always looking for those tiny sparks—and that i’m able to let them matter ♡

my curiosity

i like that i am curious about the world, including the wonderfully specific things that other people might overlook. i enjoy falling into internet rabbit holes, learning why a country’s utility poles look a certain way, discovering a new game, or finding myself absorbed in a subject i knew nothing about an hour earlier. there is always another question to ask or tiny detail to notice.

my curiosity doesn’t always need to become something useful or productive. sometimes learning something simply because it interests me is reason enough. it keeps the world from feeling completely ordinary and reminds me that there are still so many places, stories, and peculiar little facts waiting to be discovered. i like that i haven’t lost that desire to wonder ♡

my ability to see the world optimistically—at least sometimes

i like that, even after difficult experiences, i can still find moments when the world feels hopeful. i don’t feel optimistic all the time, and i don’t want to pretend that everything inevitably works out. but there are days when i can imagine gentler possibilities, believe that something good might be waiting ahead, or trust that the way life feels right now isn’t necessarily how it will feel forever.

my optimism is usually quiet rather than endlessly cheerful. it appears when i make plans, become excited about a small discovery, or let myself look forward to something again. i like that disappointment hasn’t taken that ability away from me completely. some part of me is still willing to leave a little room for things to surprise me in a good way ♡

my wavy hair

i like my wavy hair, even on the days when it seems to have an entirely different plan from the one i had for it. i like its movement, its softness, and the way the waves never fall exactly the same way twice. learning to appreciate its natural texture has also felt like learning to be a little gentler with myself instead of always trying to make something about me behave differently.

i especially love that i inherited it from my father. it feels like a small, visible piece of where i came from—something familiar carried quietly in my appearance. every time i notice the waves forming, i’m reminded that the features we inherit can hold their own little family stories ♡

my love for travel

i like the part of me that wants to see more of the world. i love the feeling of arriving somewhere unfamiliar, wandering down streets i have never seen before, trying local food, and noticing all the small details that make everyday life look different from place to place. the famous sights are lovely, but i’m often just as interested in convenience stores, public transport, neighborhood cafés, and the ordinary rhythms of a new city.

travel reminds me how large and varied the world is—and how much of it i still have left to discover. it feeds my curiosity, gives me new things to write about, and lets me briefly step outside the routines and expectations of my usual life. i like that there is still a part of me willing to leave what is familiar, even when it feels intimidating, to find out what might be waiting somewhere else ♡

my love for exploring new places

closely connected to my love for travel is how much i enjoy exploring. travelling might bring me to a new country or city, but exploring is what happens once i arrive—the wandering without a strict plan, choosing an unfamiliar side street, stepping into a shop that catches my attention, or seeing what exists beyond the places listed in a guide.

i also like that exploration doesn’t always require a plane ticket. it can mean visiting a nearby neighborhood, finding a new café, getting lost in a virtual world, or even wandering through somewhere unfamiliar on geoguessr. i like being someone who wants to look around, follow small curiosities, and find out what is tucked just beyond what i already know ♡

final thoughts

writing this felt more vulnerable than listing all the things i would like to change about myself. i’m much more accustomed to examining my flaws than pausing to appreciate what is already here. but none of the things on this list needed to be extraordinary to deserve recognition. they are simply pieces of me that i’m glad i get to carry through the world.

i know i won’t feel affectionate toward every part of myself every day, and i don’t think that has to be the goal. maybe it is enough to remember that i am more than the things i criticize—that there are qualities, quirks, and little inherited details within me that are worthy of tenderness too.

your turn

what is something you like about yourself? it could be a quality you’re proud of, a physical feature you’ve grown to appreciate, or one tiny thing that makes you feel distinctly like you. if answering feels difficult, perhaps start with the way you would describe someone you love—and offer a little of that same kindness to yourself ♡
